The Rather Friendly Art Company
Acceptable Images Policy

What you can upload

Version 1.0, 10 October 2026. This policy covers every photo you upload to The Rather Friendly Art Company, starting with your Founding Artist application. By sending an application you confirm you've read it and that your photos follow it.

In short

Upload clear photos of your own original artwork, and nothing else. If a photo wouldn't be right on the wall of a friendly high-street gallery, it isn't right here.

Photos you can upload

  • Photos of original artwork you made yourself, taken by you or by someone who has given you permission to use them.
  • The whole piece as it will be sold (framed if it's framed), and close-ups of its surface.
  • Artistic nudes, such as life drawing and figure studies, are welcome, as long as they're not sexually explicit (see below).

Photos you can't upload

  • Pornographic or sexually explicit images, including artwork whose main purpose is sexual arousal.
  • Any image that sexualises children, or shows anyone who appears to be under 18 in a sexual or indecent way. We report this to the police and the Internet Watch Foundation.
  • Hateful content: anything that attacks or demeans people because of their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age. This includes work that celebrates or promotes hate symbols, such as Nazi or white-supremacist imagery. Work that shows such symbols in a historical, critical or religious context may be acceptable; we'll decide case by case.
  • Graphic violence or gore, self-harm, or cruelty to people or animals shown to shock or glorify.
  • Illegal content, or anything that promotes illegal activity, terrorism or extremism.
  • Work that isn't yours: other people's artwork, prints or reproductions, AI-generated images, or photos copied from elsewhere, and anything that would infringe someone else's copyright or trade mark.
  • Identifiable people who haven't agreed: if a real person can be recognised in your photo (for example a portrait sitter, or someone in the background), you must have their permission. Please don't include children in the photos.
  • Personal or private information, such as addresses, phone numbers, car number plates or documents visible in the photo.
  • Misleading photos: images edited to change the colours, size or condition of the piece, or filters that hide what it really looks like.
  • Watermarks, logos, adverts or contact details added on top of the image.

What happens if a photo breaks this policy

We may decline the application, ask you for a replacement photo, or remove the photo, and we may delete it from our records straight away. Where the law requires it, for example for any image of child sexual abuse, we will report it to the police or the relevant authority and keep what they ask us to keep. Breaking this policy seriously or repeatedly means we won't accept future applications.

Your rights in your work

You keep the copyright in your artwork and your photos. You let us use your photos to review your application. We only use them to promote The Rather Friendly Art Company if you've told us that's fine, and you can change your mind at any time. How we look after the photos and your details is explained in our privacy notice.

Questions or concerns

If you're unsure whether a photo is suitable, or want to tell us about an image that you think breaks this policy, email info@ratherfriendlyart.com. We reply within 48 hours.
